Sidcup sits on the edge of South East London, tucked between the busier hubs of Bromley and Bexley. It’s a place defined largely by its suburban layout, characterized by a mix of 1930s semi-detached houses and pockets of Victorian architecture near the high street. Historically, it was a small hamlet on the road to Maidstone, but it grew rapidly with the arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century. Today, it serves as a practical base for commuters, with trains into London Bridge or Charing Cross taking around thirty minutes, while the nearby A20 provides a direct route out towards the Kent countryside. There is plenty of greenery if you know where to look; the parkland at Foots Cray Meadows offers a surprisingly wild stretch of the River Cray, and Sidcup Place provides a central open space. It’s also a notable educational hub, home to Rose Bruford College and Bird College, which gives the town centre a bit more of a creative, student-led energy than you might expect from a typical London suburb.
