Perranporth sits on a rugged stretch of the north Cornish coast, defined by its three-mile expanse of golden sand and the dramatic Atlantic swell that draws surfers year-round. While it is famous for the Watering Hole - reputedly the only pub situated directly on a beach in the UK - the town functions as a practical, self-contained community rather than just a seasonal resort. It is built around a small high street with an independent butcher, a library, and a primary school, all set against the backdrop of the undulating Penhale Sands dunes. Historically, the area was a hub for tin and copper mining, remnants of which still dot the landscape, and it is famously the place where Winston Graham wrote the *Poldark* novels. Geographically, it is well-placed for those who need to get around; it's about nine miles from Truro and a similar distance from Newquay, offering a balance between the isolation of the coast and access to Cornwall’s main administrative and transport hubs.
