Often defined by its long relationship with the coast and the coal industry, Lynemouth sits on the Northumberland shore just a few miles northeast of Morpeth. The village was largely built to serve the local colliery, and while the mine and the nearby Alcan aluminium smelter have since closed, their footprint remains part of the landscape’s character. Today, the most striking feature is the expansive beach, which has undergone significant environmental recovery in recent years and offers a rugged, quiet alternative to the busier tourist spots further north. Geographically, the village is well-positioned for those working in the region; the A1068 provides a direct link to Ashington and Ellington, while Morpeth’s mainline station is only a fifteen-minute drive away. Most of the housing consists of traditional red-brick terraces and mid-century family homes, and while the local amenities are modest - centred around a few shops and a pharmacy - the surrounding countryside provides immediate access to the Queen Elizabeth II Country Park and the coastal path.
