Bartley Green sits on the south-western edge of Birmingham, acting as a final buffer of suburbia before the city gives way to the Worcestershire countryside. The landscape here is defined by its hills and the expansive Bartley Reservoir, which was completed in 1930 to store drinking water brought in from the Elan Valley; today, it provides a scenic backdrop and a home for the local sailing club. Historically, the area was a small rural hamlet mentioned in the Domesday Book, but it underwent significant change in the 1960s with the construction of several large housing estates and the establishment of Newman University. It is a practical part of the city, well-positioned for the M5 motorway and the QE Hospital, while staying close to the walking trails of the Waseley and Lickey Hills.
